How to apply for a licence
Why is this important?
There are certain Government regulations, licences, permits and requirements to follow when applying for (or renewing) a licence. Certain industry sectors have specific licences and businesses need to comply with these requirements. These include conveyancers; home building, plumbers, electricians, refrigeration/air conditioning and building consultancy; motor dealers; motor repairers and insurers; pawnbrokers and second-hand dealers; property agents and managers; travel agents; and valuers.
What to do
To find out everything you need to know about licences visit The Business Licence Information Service (BLIS).
This is a free online service, accessible on an industry sector basis. As well as providing information on all the regulations, licences and permits required to operate a business, it enables you to generate the forms required to comply with the requirements. It provides information on specific licences, online licence renewals, occupational licensing and training and trading outside your state.
NB As of December 2010 the service, previously a state by state website, became a national one. Licences will continue to be issued and enforced by Fair Trading but will be recognised in all Australian States and Territories.
